Kiwi for Gmail Lite App Reviews

Not really worth buying

There are better native apps than this. It seems to be using gmail in the browser based version as you can access your other gmail settings and functions just the way you do them in the browser.

Best Mac client for Gmail

Best Mac client for Gmail… Bring in extensions and I’ll be happy to pay for the premium version!

Exactly what it says it is, but that’s not necessarily good

So, yes, Kiwi is an entire Gmail client for the Mac, down to the last detail. It’s basically just like opening a dedicated Chrome window just for Gmail. I guess that’s good. But if that’s what I wanted, why wouldn’t I just keep a dedicated Chrome window open? What I was hoping for, and what Kiwi doesn’t deliver, is a better user interace. I love Gmail, but the layout is terrible. No ability to show a preview pane for messages? Why not? This is a stand-alone client so it should absolutely be a feature. Same page-by-page view of your inbox? Why? How about an endlessly scrolling list just like other email clients? IMHO, the goal should not have been to reproduce the Gmail web experience, but instead, create a much better experience that also supports 100% of Gmail’s features. Dunno, maybe I’m missing something?

Perfect if you like the Gmail interface

Gmail’s web interface works great for me and I use the search bar all the time. Kiwi preserves all that and makes things even more convenient to use.

Everything it said it would do

Does everything it said it would do quickly and cleanly. No complaints!

Awesome gmail app for mac!

It’s been a long time since I needed an app on Mac OS for gmail. All of the other apps was unfortunately not helpful. But Kiwi is just great! It looks and feal like gmail on a browser, but add all these functionality, notification, multiple account, Drive integration, and many more! Simply love this app!

Privacy concerns: This app intercepts your links

Links seem to be intercepted through the kiwiforgmail website without prior warning. What else is happening without the user’s knowledge? Beware.

Does what it says it does

I needed a gmail app that would preserve its web interface but make it more convenient on my mac. This one does the job.

Very Good app: a must have for Gmail users, but what an awful Icon!

This is a very good application for who rely on Google Gmail or Google Apps Gmail. Lightweight, no frills - does what it promises. The only thing I have to complain is the icon that - in my opinion - is really terrible! Neither like Gmail one, nor in the OSX style. However, great work guys! Keep it on!!

Good application. still not fully integrated with OS

Usefull application. a first step to a better use of gmail account in a Mac system. but pleese….. change that ORRIBLE icon please..

all is perfect...except one thing

app works great, except it often crashes (closes unexpectedly with an error report) when I click on a link inside of an email. 4 stars only for this reason, otherwise it’d be 5 stars.

Pretty good, but connectivity problems

The first couple of weeks that I used this, it was good, did everything it said it would. Then, it started to give me a message saying cannot connect with gmail…we’re working on it. And the message would stay up quite a while. I discovered that while they had this error, I was able to connect to and use Gmail through both Safari and Chrome. Once in a while, ok. But now it’s more than half the time. I’ll give it a while, but if it still has the problem, I’ll just go back to the old bookmark way in Safari.

nothing but a stand-alone browser for gmail

Kiwi is nothing besides a stand-alone browser set to google.com/mail as the homepage. With the exception of the menubar and color coded accounts, there are literally no additional features of this app from stand-alone browser-based gmail. Even the lauded "send huge attachments" is simply using gmails browser-based google drive integration. Its no faster than the browser-based Gmail and they require you to pay for standard gmail features (multiple accounts, keyboard shortcuts, etc). A little bit over-promising to take all of Gmails features (hangouts, etc) and advertise them as features of your app. There are two free tools that do this, but much more universally (i.e. for any web app, not just gmail) - and without needing to pay for "extra" features. Check out Epichrome or Fluid App for free alternatives.

It’s Just a web Browser

This is nothing more than a web browser.

Pretty great for multitab/multiwindow people

I take full advantage of tabs and windows in Chrome and workspaces on my Mac, so keeping even a pinned tab for email was tedious, and the built in mail client for Mac is terrible. Kiwi let’s me keep what is essentially a dedicated browser window for my gmail. All of the gmail plugins that I have work pretty flawlessly. And now that they fixed the problem for opening Google docs (which would require a restart of Kiwi all the time), this app is great. I have only two gripes: * Clicking on mailto:name@address type hyperlinks with Kiwi as the default email reader seems to crash Kiwi. * I wish there was a way to specify to Kiwi whether a Google doc should open in Kiwi or open in your default browser. Other than that, this app is great

Kiwi Lite helpful

It is helpful having a stand alone window for gmail. It opens links quickly in Chrome and gets the job done. It would be helpful to personalize the appearance of the screen. Make it look more distinctive or more integrated to my background and less like an open tab on a browser. I wouldn’t pay for an app that currently looks like a tab on Chrome.

Works OK, Sometimes

This is an easy app to use and generally works OK, but quite often when trying to open a web page from the app it hangs up and hyas to be closed. After re-opening and clicking on the link it works fine. But the lock-up happens often enough to be a bit irritating. It has been some time since I submitted the above, and it is no better. I have to force close on a almost daily basis. When I try to go to a link I get the spinning beach ball. The only solution is to force quit and start over. It would be a nice app if it weren’t for that.

Works great

I love this app - great way to check emails and get email notifications without opening browser. The ONLY hitch I have found is downloading attachments and printing. Both of those actions cause Kiwi to freeze. I avoid that by opening up Gmail in a browser. To me, it’s no big deal as long as I remember.

Solved a problem!

I love this app! It is a great help for my wife…who isn’t too comfortable on the computer, but loves to use email.

Works Perfectly! And it’s free.

I’ve been using this app for six months now and it works very well. Seamless. I’ve encountered no bugs whatsoever.
